The Real World.

I have been absent from blogging for a couple of weeks for a "Real World" reason. Two weeks ago I got home to find my great dane Indy very sick. I was completely unsure of what had happened to her but she was barking and growling at me (which was very, very unusual) She seemed to also have lost her sight. After a rush to the vet, many things were ruled out including snake bite and poisoning. ( In Australia we have some very poisonous snakes and I have found several in our yard over the past few years) It ends up that Indy now suffers from seizures. Seeing any animal when they are sick is horrible and not knowing what to do is awful. After a very horrible weekend of seizures we thought we would have to make "the decision". We thought we should take her to the vet again and get his opinion. It ended up that Indy made a miraculous recovery (She even has her eyesight back!!!Amazing). She seems to be responding well to her new medication and we have changed our routines to fit into her medication regime. I know that I am very lucky to have a bit more time with her and will cherish the days and hopefully months that I'll get with her. Indy is turning eight this year, which for most dogs is young. But for a great dane...its old age...

During all the mayhem with Indy I received a late...late...late Christmas present. A voucher for a local home improvement store. I decided to get a Dremel kit to go with my Dremel. It has many items that could be used for many mini applications. I'm very interested in the carving attachment and wonder what I could use it for.

My last picture is of Indy with her new toy. I'm not sure how long Monkey will last. Usually Indy would destroy a soft toy in minutes. She also has problems with eating pillows and cushions. This toy has lasted a day. I'll give you an update soon...poor monkey.

So everybody, go give your cat or dog (or whatever or whoever is your pal) a great big hug or pat. Animals have such short lives, but they are so worth having as part of our lives!

    1. Roxas likes destroying toys also. There must be at least one dog out there that doesn't destroy toys....maybe. IndyPoppy

  3. I'm really sorry to hear about Indy. I've given both my cats and sweet little dog extra hugs and they send a special hug to Indy as well. You are so right about our pets being a huge part of our lives, I couldn't imagine life without them.
    Blessings, Vicki.

  4. So very glad to hear that Indy seems to be on the mend. People with pets surely know that they are more than just animals...but rather cherished members of our families. Wonderful that you have extra time together.
    Best wishes,

  8. Your post moved me for I know how it feels to love your pet so much and see it suffering. I am glad to read that Indy is responding very well to her medication and I hope she still will have many years ahead together with you. I think you are very loving towards your dog.
Congratulations on getting a Dremel, a magic tool!

Manu

  10. I've never heard of a dog having asthma. Wow, they must get a lot of human type issues that we get. Give Tiffany a cuddle from me. IndyPoppy

  11. glad to hear that Indy is doing better and hopefully you'll have him around for a few more years. I'm currently dog sitting, so gave Ollie a few snuggles and my cats too. (Dev and Diva)

  12. Give Indy a big hug from me and I hope the monkey doesn't last too long, its' early demise would mean a return to health for Indy :) I have a very soft spot for Danes, my mother bred them. Such a shame the giant breeds don't have long life spans though my little ones still only average 12 years - no matter how long, it would never be enough for me. Thoughts with you and Indy.

  14. I need to just have a go with the Dremel. Often I hold back, thinking I'll make mistakes, so never start. I really just need to just do it.

  15. Glad Indy is on the mend and I hope it lasts, she looks like a lovely girl. We are having problems with our beautiful Cocker, Ollie. He is going on 13, has been coughing for months and having little turns, quite frequently now. Vet doesn't really know what it might be. Other than that he seem quite happy. Hope they both stick around for for quite a while longer, I am sure you are as close to Indy as we are to our boy. Look forward to seeing what you do with your new toys.

    1. My friend has Cocker spaniels. They are gorgeous. I hope Ollie feels better soon. Our vet was a little unsure also about why Indy started having seizures. He put it down to possibly a small bleed in her brain, caused from her age.

  18. I think that one of the worst aspects of a sick pet is when they look at you with such sad eyes! It breaks my heart, it really does! I am so sorry that Indy was SO sick. How frightening that must have been for you! I am glad that Indy is better now; Apparently, pets actually help their owners to feel less stressed and lower our blood pressure! I read that somewhere, and from experience, I know that it is true!

  19. So glad Indy is doing well. My little Lizzie(a tiny Yorkie) has problems too. Since birth though. My Dad was able to find her the right supplement and food. She is now almost 4. We thought she would be gone before she turned one. Now she even has her vet scratching his head. She is doing so well.
I also had another Yorkie named Fifi. She had seizures and was partially blind. She lived a very good life until she was 13 years old. Indy may still have many years in front of her. It's just about finding that balance. They are so precious. And it is so hard to see them sick. But it's so worth having them in our lives. They are such gorgeous little/big beings. I'm so happy things turned out for you guys. Continued health and happiness!
    hugs♥,
    Caroline

    1. Wow, 13 years is wonderful. I had no idea that seizure were so common. Indy is doing well but I'm still paranoid every time she gets restless or seems extremely quiet. I' m sure with time I'll trust the medication more. Yorkie's are super cute. Definitely on my dog wish list.

  21. I was SO relieved to find that Indy recovered! Over the years I have had many 'close calls' with my menagerie of naughty pooches...isn't it miraculous how they can just bounce back? I hope you and Indy have many wonderful adventures together.

    XOXO,
    John

    1. Thanks John for your comment. I hate the "close calls" also. We still get worried every time she acts a little differently. The medication has been wonderful but she isn't that keen on me giving it to her. Luckily she always has it when my boyfriend gives it to her. IndyPoppy

    Mely

Thank you so much for visiting little Zoe... She is a real card, that one.. I also have a miniature poodle Jasper, they just love each other... He gets so excited when she comes home.. Like she had been gone for a year.. How funny.
